Is There Any Hope?
October 29, 2001

I was intrigued.

Not so long ago, a TV: personality was interviewing someone and they asked the person this question, "tell me, is there any hope for this world." The question was not about hope of eternal life but for the business world. I was intrigued when I heard the answer to this important question; so I wrote this article. This question is being asked over and over; controversial or not, your opinion may even differ from mine but this question must be faced. Is there any hope for this world?

Ever since the September, 11th disaster, where many innocent people lost their lives, leaving behind many more thousands to weep and mourn over their deaths. I have heard hundreds of speeches from prominent and not so prominent people, people from all walk of life; people from every religious entity; are speaking out.

There are few others like myself, who are amazed at the handful of those who mention God in their conversations. "We will fight back, we will overcome, we will get them for what they did to us. America is the greatest nation and we will not be defeated. We were so lucky we missed the flight. We are lucky to be alive!" As you have noticed in those comments, God is not mention, He is not in the picture. Even ministers of the gospel, jumped on the bandwagon of the follies and said things that make you shiver. Do they really believe that this world is rotating because of the power and wisdom of men?

I wonder what the people who were on those flights did, I wonder how they reacted; knowing that they were about to die; did they pray? If so, to whom did they pray? Did they say O mighty United States of America or O United Nations; save us please! I do not think so. Do not point any skeptical finger at me; I do love the United States of America; that is the reason why I have been living here for more than twenty years. Let’s face it, we have wondered too far away from the principles of our Heavenly Father and leaning more to our own strength.

Taking prayer out of schools, is one of those backward steps we have taken over the years. I am convinced that there were God fearing people on those flights, they knew who was the mightiest on earth and in heaven. I believe that they would of course pray to Him for saving grace, to live with Him in His Kingdom; that is what I would have done; wouldn’t you?

Again we come to this important question; is there any hope for this world? If God way is the choice we make, then the answer to that question would be yes! There is enough room in heaven for all that are alive now, and for those who have died in Christ since long ago. But God does not operate that way, He does not force you to do His will and live; however, He encourages us to do the right thing. "Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David." Isaiah 55: 3.

What are these "sure mercies of David?" We will just look at one, which is found in Psalm 23: 6. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." The Lord’s mercy is base on a few ifs: "If you repent and turn to me I will bless you. If you love me, keep my Commandments." Those are straightforward and genuine conditions our Heavenly Father has made. I pray that all of us will strive to obtain God’s mercies, mercies that will take us to His Kingdom on the new earth where all things will be well.

God blesses and keep you, may you have a pleasant week.
